A Legacy in Motion: Four Generations of Paving Excellence

A Rich History In The Industry & Region

With a deep-rooted history in both the industry and the Inland Northwest, Poe Asphalt represents more than just construction—it represents a four-generation family commitment to quality and community.

1953: The Foundation

The journey began when Ernie Poe founded the Asphalt Paving Company. With a single vision and a dedication to hard work, Ernie laid the groundwork for what would become a regional leader in infrastructure.

1962: A New Era Of Growth

The torch passed to Ernie’s son, Don Poe, who incorporated the business as Poe Asphalt Paving, Inc. In those early days, the operation was lean but ambitious: with just five employees, a small batch plant, and two end dumps, the team successfully laid 4,500 tons of hot mix in a single year.

1963: Mobile Innovation & Expansion

Recognizing the need for greater reach, the company invested in its first portable asphalt plant. This move allowed Poe Asphalt to mobilize across the region, sparking three decades of steady, sustainable growth throughout the 1960s, 70s, and 80s.

1992: Leadership for a Modern Market

The third generation took the helm when Don’s son, Mark Poe, was named President and CEO. Under Mark’s leadership, the company modernized its operations while maintaining the family values that defined its first 40 years.

1999: Connecting the Inland Northwest

Poe Asphalt significantly broadened its footprint by entering the Coeur d’Alene and Spokane markets. This expansion complemented their established base plants serving the Lewiston/Clarkston, Moscow/Pullman, and Grangeville communities, solidifying their position as a premier service provider across the region.

2026: Today and Beyond

Enter the fourth generation. Now in its 73rd year, Poe Asphalt remains a family-driven powerhouse. Led by Mark, and son Dustin, they blend decades of technical expertise with the latest in paving technology, and continue to build the roads that connect our communities, carrying our rich heritage into a new era of excellence.
